Amy- Out of Office until February 1

I will be having surgery on Friday, January 15 and will then be out of the office until February 1. If you need any registration forms for Teen Retreat or Camp Counselor applications, they are on the 4-H website. I will be checking email after a week so if you need something, please email me. Farm Show

If you can't make it to Farm Show this year, check it out on channel 22 on TV. I would like to thank Sarah and Peter Wright, Rachel Eller, Tom & Marcus Murphy, Ashley Sutton and Pam & Stephanie McFall for working the 4-H booth on Sunday, January 10. We talked with about 400 people during our 6 hour shift and did the hands on BioFuel experiment with about 50 youth.

LIVESTOCK JUDGING CONTEST

Delaware Valley College will be conducting a livestock judging contest for 4-H and FFA groups on Saturday April 17, 2010

Schedule is as follows:
Registration 8:00 - 8:45 AM – Lobby Feldman Agricultural Building
General Meeting 8:45 AM Instructions – Mendel Science Building Room 114
Judging 9:00 AM Six classes, three reasons - At Farm III
(2 cattle, 2 hog, 2 sheep)
Reasons Giving Approximately 12:30 PM (3 sets for seniors)
Awards Presentation Approximately 3:00 PM

There will be an entry fee of $5.00 per person with an unlimited number of entries.

There will be both team and individual awards. Team members will be eligible for both team and individual awards. If teams are entered, they must be designated as teams at registration. Individuals can serve on only one team. A team shall consist of three or four members. If three members, there will be no alternate; if four members are on a team, the low member's score will be dropped. If there are not enough participants for a complete team, individuals may participate as individuals. Low member of team will be determined by total score for placing and reasons for all species. Junior participants will not be required to give reasons.

Students should bring a box lunch. None may be purchased.

A coach's meeting will be held during the time that reasons are given. This meeting will provide an opportunity for input by the coaches for future contests. A pre-registration form is enclosed.
We encourage you to return it so that our office receives it by April 9th. We hope to see you on
April 17.

Potter County 4-H will be well represented at this years Farm Show. 14 4-H members sent down projects in Electricity, Photography, Sewing, Sculpture, 3-D Displays, Entomology, Stamp Collecting, Knitting, Drawing and Poster Art. We will let you know results as soon as they are posted!

Ag Day 2010 Essay Contest

Ag Day 2010 Essay Contest: This year’s theme is "American Agriculture: Abundant, Affordable, Amazing." The national winner will receive $1,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C. For complete contest details rules and entry form visit 2010 Ag Day Essay Contest.Contest deadline is Feb. 12.

2010 Ag Day Essay Contest• Theme - "American Agriculture: Abundant, Affordable, Amazing"
• Length - Essays must contain no more than 450 words
• Eligibility - Students in grades 7-12 in the 2009-2010 school year
• Prizes - State winners (one per state) - $100; National winner - $1,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C. The winner will be recognized on March 18, 2010 at the Celebration of Ag Dinner to be held at the Whitten Patio.
