If
anyone is looking to provide a loving, long-term home to a horse, the 4-H
office has been contacted by a woman in Genesee who has two Appaloosas
available. Information on the gelding and mare can be found below – along
with contact details. A photo of both horses is attached above.
Please
share this information in an attempt to find this pair a wonderful home.
Thanks!
Amy,
I spoke
to you this morning about our two Appaloosa horses, Shy Ann and Nacho.
Shy Ann is the darker colored one and Nacho is the other one. They were
both checked over by the vet late last fall and are in good health.
Nacho, a gelding, is approximately 7 years old and a wonderful horse who likes
people. Shy Ann, a mare, is approximately 20 years old. Neither horse has
been ridden for some time. He needs an experienced rider because he is
spirited and she would be good for a less experienced child. She does
have some joint stiffness due to her age and he is at least partially blind in
his left eye.
We are both in our 70's and would
like to find a home to give them to that will love them and treat them
well. They are a bit spoiled.
Maybe you know of someone who
would like one or both of them for a 4H or FFA project. Could you post
something on you bulletin board? We live in Genesee and Sally works for
Potter County Human Services in Roulette so she could stop by one day and talk
to you about them on her way to or from work.
Thanks
Will or Sally

Webinar Title “Learn about International Youth
Exchange: U.S. Department of State Hosting and Scholarship Opportunities”
Webinar’s
Intent:
Did you know the
U.S. Department of State provides full scholarships to international and
American high school students to study abroad?
Each year, the
State Department awards competitive, merit-based scholarships to approximately
2,000 of the most promising international students from over 50 countries study
in U.S. high schools, live with volunteer host families, and engage in
extracurricular, leadership and community service activities., At the same
time, approximately 1,000 American high school students receive full
scholarships to study overseas each year.
Discover how 4-H
families and clubs in your state can support U.S. Public Diplomacy efforts and
foreign policy goals by welcoming an international student into their homes and
educating American youth about study abroad scholarship opportunities.
This is an
opportunity to learn how 4-H clubs and families can internationalize their
communities, bring current events to life, and develop future leaders with

Imagine a place where kids can
gather without the distractions of today’s hectic world. A place where
they feel connected and accepted by others, have the confidence to take on new
challenges and try new things and where they have the opportunity to interact
and make friends with people who are different from them. This place is
called camp! 4-H Campers have the opportunity to participate in daily
workshops, nightly events including talent shows, campfires, scavenger hunts
and the usual camp activities such as games, swimming, and canoeing. The
mission of camp is to help each individual camper gain skills that help them
achieve a strong self-concept, self-responsibility, and an ability to get along
with peers.
Northwinds 4-H Camp registration is now open and enrolling
campers for the 2013 summer session June 11-14. 4-H Camp is held at Camp
Penuel in Eldred, PA. 4-H camp is open to all youth ages 8 to 13. You do
not need to be enrolled in 4-H to participate in camp. For more
information or a registration packet, please call 814-274-8540.
Cost is $90 for four full days. Registration deadline is May 8. Penn State is committed to affirmative

Improve the Value of your Beef through Quality Assurance
The Pennsylvania Beef Council will conduct a Beef
Quality Assurance (BQA) Classroom Level 1 training session Tuesday, March 5, 2013.
The training will be held at the Potter County Extension Office located at
24
Maple View Lane Coudersport, PA 16915. The Classroom
training class will run from 6 -8pm. The training will be for producers new to
the BQA program that are interested in becoming certified. Light refreshments
will be served.
For questions or
to register for the event, please contact Nichole
Hockenberry at the Pennsylvania Beef Council, 1-888-423-3372
or nhockenberry@pabeef.org .
The BQA
program is designed to improve the value and quality of beef throughout the
industry by training producers in the best management practices. The classroom
training session is the first level of a two-part program. The classroom training session will help
train beef producers in best management practices as a way to help them improve
their beef’s value. The second part of the training is a chute-side training
session. Producers will see the effects and
outcomes of shots given in the meat and/or muscle depending on the route of
administration and type of product given.
Recertification
is required every two years. Producers who complete the two-level program will
receive a certification manual which includes helpful reference material and record-keeping
forms. Certified producers will also receive a Free Certified Producer farm
sign, opportunity to purchase BQA Allflex ear tags, Free PA Preferred/BQA Beef
stickers to label beef you sell, access to calf pool sales, access to sell beef
to BQA retail programs, Free BVD PI Test Kits, a monthly newsletter, and much
more.
